The Springfield Police Department provides law enforcement services to a population of approximately 9,000 residents, covering 49 square miles and has been described as one of the busiest departments in Windsor County.

The Police force currently consists of:

• 1 Lieutenant

• 1 Sergeant

• 2 Corporals

• 8 Patrol Officers

Each year law enforcement officers respond to approximately 10,500 calls for service; perform 4,000 motor vehicle stops; participate in grant-funded DUI and seatbelt enforcement activities and various other motor vehicle enforcement details including the "Click It or Ticket" program. 

The Emergency Communications Center of the Springfield PD consists of:

• 5 full-time Dispatchers

Dispatch answers roughly 80,000 phone calls a year. Coverage area includes Springfield Police, Fire and EMS.

We are seeking an energetic, positive professional with a strong desire to provide quality police services to a progressive community. Starting pay with no experience is $25.18 per hour. A Vermont certified patrol officer's pay would be adjusted by the level of experience ($26.05 - $32.49)

The position is subject to rotational shifts. Benefits included: (2) Paid Personal Days, (10) Paid Holidays, Vacation Leave, Travel Reimbursement, Cost of Living Adjustments, Yearly Raises, Medical & Prescription Health Plan, Dental Plan, Vision Reimbursement, Short-Term & Long-Term Disability, Life Insurance and VMERS Retirement Plan; Under VMERS Plan D, Employees can retire after 20 years with up to 50% of final compensation.

Animal Control Officer

The Animal Control Officer is a part-time position appointed by the town to enforce local town ordinances pertaining to domestic animals. If you call the Police Department and the ACO is not on duty at that time, a police officer will still respond, if the situation you're calling about is happening at that time. If the officer responding deems the situation to be an emergency they may call out the ACO to respond. If it is something that's an ongoing issue but not currently happening that will be forwarded to the ACO for follow up.

Example - Neighbor's dog is constantly roaming, but not currently loose, this would be a follow up call for the ACO.

If there is a loose dog roaming at the time of your call a Police Officer will respond as their emergency call volume allows. The ACO does NOT handle wildlife rabies vectors (bats, skunks, raccoons, foxes, etc.).

The ACO may be available to assist with calls pertaining to young, orphaned, or injured wildlife, depending on the availability of VT Fish & Wildlife. This will only happen after the ACO contacts their department about the call. Please contact the Vermont Department of Fish & Wildlife for questions pertaining to wild animals.
